WWDC22 Highlights: Apple kicked off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference with a first-of-its-kind special event held at Apple Park that welcomed developers, students, and media to a viewing of the keynote, Platforms State of the Union, and an unveiling of the all-new Apple Developer Center.
Here are the highlights from the Apple WWDC22 keynote address:
Apple WWDC22: iOS 16
- Customisable lockscreen with support for wallpapers, photos, live widgets, animations, and transitions
- Stacked notifications on lockscreen
- Live Activities is a new design element added to lockscreen
- Separate lockscreens based on focus settings
- Messages gets edit and retract feature, which lets user edit the text message or retract the message.
- SharePlay is coming to Messages
- Dictation typing with automatic punctuation is coming to Messages
- Live Text is enabled for videos, translate camera
- Visual look-up is coming to Messages
- Apple Maps is reaching more countries, but India has to wait a little longer
- Multistop routing with up to 15 stops coming to Apple Maps
- Transit with fare details is coming to Apple Maps with iOS 16
Apple WWDC22: WatchOS 9
- Play time, Lunar, Metropolitan, and one more watch face is coming to Apple Watch series with WatchOS 9
- Refreshed Siri UI and banner notifications
- Three new running metrics for workout routine are added
- Sleep stages is finally coming to Apple Watch series
- Afib history is added
- Medications app to schedule, track, and monitor medications
Apple WWDC22: macOS Ventura
- Stage Manager gather all the open windows together in a single pile for clutter free UI
- Grouping windows becomes easier with Stage Manager
- Spotlight to support quick look, live text in photos
- Mail to get undo action, schedule option, and more
- Safari gets shared tabs group for easy sharing with select contacts
- A safer alternative to web passwords, Passkeys debuts with new Safari
- Gaming on Mac gets a boost with Metal 3
- Village — Resident Evil is coming to Mac later this year
- FaceTime is a new app to support Macs’ Continuity feature
- Continuity camera: iPhone to double up as webcam with Centre Stage and Studio Light support
Apple WWDC22: iPadOS 16
- Collaboration: To share for collaboration and not just send a copy of document.
- Free Form app (coming later this year): For brainstorming session
- Gaming: Metal 3 is coming to iPad with M1 chip
- Apps are set to get optimised for desktop-like experience
- Stage Manager on iPad to allow windows resizing, over lapping windows, windows reposition besides gathering all the open windows together in a single pile for clutter free UI
